The Middle East developed from the ruins of the Ottoman Empire into one of the most contested regions in the world to the present. Students will be able to identify the types of backlash caused by imperialism. In addition, students will able to understand what the conflicts between tradition and modernization in the context of the Middle East.

The Russian Revolution is considered one of the most transformative events of the 20th Century. Students will be able to identify the cascading series of events that sparked a revolution in Russian during WWI. In addition, identify the key leaders of the revolution, like Stalin and Lenin, which transformed Russia into the first Communist country.

Once WWII ended the real global struggle between Capitalism and Communism returned to the forefront of international relations. Students will be able to differentiate between Capitalism and Communist systems. Also, the students will be able to understand the tightrope of tensions that almost ended in mutally assured self-distruction.
